We enjoy the company of our thirteen furry friends, who often follow us around, seek our company, make us laugh with their antics and mostly love to cuddle. Since our pets roam freely, most guests hardly notice that we have eleven cats on the property. However, due to this carefree lifestyle of our pets, we are usually unable to accommodate guests who would like to come with their own pets.

We've created this page to help you identify our pets when you're with us.

Click on any picture to see at least its (reversed) date, and we'll do our best to share as many comments and stories as time allows.

At the end of this page, we also remember with love those who are no longer with us: Jack (the best cat ever), Spot and Sky.

Our long Cat Story in short

In the nine years we've been living here (since 2017), we've found, rescued, or adopted 14 cats, each with a (heartbreakingly) sad story.

Two have died - our beloved Jack was poisoned in 2023, his ever wandering sister Sky was hit by a car, almost in the same spot we found them the year before - and our handsome Spot went missing in the spring of 2024 (the most optimistic version is that his extreme curiosity "loaded" him into one of the delivery vans from which he jumped out who knows where).

In June 2019, Berry was driving past the giant trash cans at the end of the road that runs past our property. Hearing desperate cries, he stopped and found a mini Gaston, barely alive, in one of the bins. Sara fed and rescued him, and he became an indoor cat living with her family until their move to Slovenia in the spring of 2025. A month later, in July 2019, we found tiny Jack and Sky, still barely alive, in a plastic bag dumped by the roadside, less than 100 m from our main gate. In August 2000, we adopted Bibi and Coco from the municipal shelter in Tavira, who were already recovering from numerous illnesses.

Would you believe the story about having two dogs and two cats in the morning, and then two dogs and seven cats in the late afternoon? On the same day in September 2023, when we first adopted three black and white kittens - Suri, Spike and Spot - during lunch and Sara found and brought Milo and Mars home that same afternoon, we said: "No more, Universe, please, seven cats is more than enough."

Apparently not, because ... in September 2024 we adopted a trio of Siamese kitties - Jo, Mo and Bo - from Susan, the friend to whom their mother with five kittens took refuge! And then at the end of October 2025, Jade comes along. The only cat who has decided to adopt us! 😊 Nope, despite the already high number of our cats, we never even considered finding her a home somewhere else.

That's how we ended up with eleven cats who happily roam around our property, regularly make us laugh and come to cuddle, eat at a special cat dining table our MacGyver built, and sleep in or near our house all nights. Expensive, but priceless. ❤️

PS: No worries, all our cats are neutered. We paid for the procedure for Gaston, Jack, Sky, Milo, Mars, Jo, Mo and Bo, the costs for Bibi and Coco were covered by the municipal shelter in Tavira, for Suri, Spike and Spot partly by the APAR (our village shelter) and for Jade the job was covered by the Algarve's StreeLife association.
